Mythical Beasts and Where to Find Them is an ongoing project by the Atlantic Council’s Cyber Statecraft Initiative and American University’s Center for Security, Innovation, and New Technology documenting the proliferation of spyware. The ‘mythical beasts’ here refers to the common practice of vendors in the spyware market taking names from fantasy and mythology for their products.
The project currently consists of an interactive and an in-depth report based on a dataset collected by the Atlantic Council and American University team.
The Atlantic Council’s Cyber Statecraft Initiative, under the Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab), works at the nexus of geopolitics and cybersecurity to craft strategies to help shape the conduct of statecraft and to better inform and secure users of technology.
