Mattia Caniglia

Mattia Caniglia is an associate director at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab where he coordinates training and capacity-building activities on open-source intelligence techniques, disinformation, and digital resilience.

Caniglia is also affiliate lecturer at the University of Glasgow with an international master’s in security, intelligence and strategic studies, where he regularly delivers lectures on jihadist and right-wing violent extremism and international security.

Caniglia has extensive field experience on the ground in Europe, Africa, the Balkans, and Southeast Asia. An expert in open-source intelligence data analysis, he has conducted high profile research and analysis activities on disinformation, terrorism and counterterrorism, international security and geopolitical issues, the European Union Common Security and Defence Policy and the European External Action Service. He has a geographical focus on Europe, the Mediterranean, the Sahel and Sub-Saharan Africa.
